  CODE OF MEMBERSHIP AND PARTICIPATION

The purpose of this QA@H Code of Membership and Participation is to communicate some simple expectations for the conduct of all who participate – whether at the Board level, as a member or volunteer, or third party provider (collectively, “participants”).

MAINTAIN RESPECT AND DIGNITY

  • We Are Here to Help Each Other. All participants are expected to treat each other in a caring and respectful fashion, supporting self-determination to the fullest extent possible.

ACT WITH INTEGRITY

  • Avoid Discrimination and Harassment. Participants are prohibited from engaging in discriminatory behavior based on another’s age, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or any other characteristic protected by the public policy of the state of Maryland.  Discriminatory conduct, including sexual harassment in any form, or any other form of harassment on the basis of any protected characteristic, will result in the immediate termination of membership or participation.
  • Be Discreet. Participants may learn private information about each other while engaging in QA@H or in member-to-member help.  Do not disclose the private information of others without prior authorization.
  • Stay In Your Lane. Unless professionally licensed to do so, participants may not provide any medical or home health support, or assistance with the activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, etc.) to other participants.
  • Avoid Financial Conflicts. Members paying members for volunteer time and effort expended is not appropriate and would disqualify members from insurance coverage.  Members reimbursing members for direct out-of-pocket expenses incurred while providing a service is between the parties involved and should be spelled out and agreed to before service is provided.

BE CAREFUL

  • Participation Is At Your Own Risk. All participation in QA@H activities and member-to-member help is voluntary and at your own risk.  Be prudent, safe and cautious when offering assistance to or accepting assistance from another.
  • If You See Something, Say Something. If a situation arises that gives you non-urgent concerns about the safety, wellbeing, or conduct of another participant, contact the QA@H Board of Directors.  In the event of an emergency, call 911.
  • Stay Covered. All service requests must be routed through the QA@H website or central phone number. This helps demonstrate that all our services are provided voluntarily, and also promotes healthy boundaries among our volunteer/ members.

REMEMBER:  PARTICIPATION IS A PRIVILEGE

  • Compliance and Consequences. Failure to comply with this Code of Membership and Participation, or other policies issued by QA@H from time to time, may lead to termination of your membership or other participation at QA@H discretion.
